PROJECT OVERVIEW

The City of Edmonton required a closed-circuit television (CCTV) integration and backbone fibre connectivity within a new bus maintenance facility – the Kathleen Andrews Transit Garage. The solution required greater consistency and quality for camera maintenance, connection, and monitoring ability.

CHERMIK ENGAGEMENT

Chermik was engaged for a number of reasons. The first being we are the current maintenance contractor for Edmonton Transit’s communications systems. Second, Chermik was initially engaged as a subcontractor through an electrical subcontractor on the project. When the subcontractor was removed from the project, the General Contractor (Graham Construction) engaged Chermik directly due to our:

  • Ability to keep the communication open and bridge any gap between the various contractors, including the new electrical contractor when engaged.
  • Company mentality of “collaborate and support” while continually providing high-quality solutions to advance the fibre market in Edmonton in a cost-impactful manner.

CHERMIK CONTRIBUTIONS

The Kathleen Andrews Transit Garage provided a unique challenge for both the City and Chermik, allowing for true innovation, growth, and opportunity for the future of transit connectivity. Since project completion, the client has experienced:

  • The reality that powered fibre does work, including at long distances, allowing for modularity and scalability.
  • Additional support through existing partnerships with product manufacturers.
  • A unique solution for CCTV by utilizing the powered fibre infrastructure, allowing for once centralized “head-end” for all facility, cameras, providing a more cost-effective solution overall.
  • Improved confidence for ETS to consider, implement, and execute more “out of the box” solutions.
  • Greater possibility mindset evidenced by requesting this type of solution is incorporated on future projects.
